EASI-CLOUDS — Extendable Architecture and Service Infrastructure for Cloud-aware Software

Extendable Architecture and Service Infrastructure for Cloud-Aware Software” (EASI-CLOUDS) is a research project funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). It addresses the problem that the current development in cloud computing focuses on specialized platforms and applications and vendor-specific APIs causing a heterogeneous cloud landscape. The aim of EASI-CLOUDS is therefore to develop open standards for the interoperability between clouds. These standards will also benefit the scalability and availability as well as the collaboration and competition between cloud providers.

The developed components will form a modular and dynamic platform for cloud service developers extending the concept of service-oriented architectures (SOA) to cloud computing. The platform will provide scalable and portable cloud services like, for example, monitoring, billing and SLA management. The effectiveness of concept and components will be demonstrated in a prototype marketplace and a medical use case which involves the computation of MRI scans in the cloud.
